CREW OF THE ACHILLES
MANY NEW ZEALAND RATINGS RECOMMISSIONED THIS YEAR [THE PRESS Special Service.] AUCKLAND, December 14. The Achilles left New Zealand on the outbreak of the war, and has many New Zealanders on board. She was first commissioned for service with the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy at Chatham - on March 31, 1936, and arrived at Auckland on September 6, 1936. The Achilles served successively as flagship under both Rear-Admiral the Hon. E. R. Drummond and Com-
modore I. G. Glennie, who took hei to England early this year for recommissioning. She returned to Auckland a few months later under the command of Captain W. E. Parry, who had with him as officers, when she left for war service recentlythe following;— Commander D. M. L. Neame. Lieutenant-Commander 3?. T. A.. Love. Lieutenant P. P. M. Green. Lieutenant G. G. Cowburn. Lieutenant R. C. Dewell. Lieutenant F. E. Brooking. Lieutenant W. Moresby. Commander (E.) H. W. Head. Lieutenant (E.) J. A. R. Abbot. Lieutenant (E.) C. F. Morrow. Captain (Royal Marines) J. Lampen, Paymaster-Commander K. T. Isaac. Surgeon-Lieutenant C. G. Hunter. Paymaster-Lieutenant I. F. Sommerville. *
Lieutenant (Aircraft) E. W. Sykes. There were also three Royal .Naval Reserve officers, Sub-Lieutenants Williams and Chapman, and Sur-geon-Lieutenant C. A. Pittar, of Auckland. Her complement is about 550, probably half being New Zealanders.
