DEPARTURE OF SOLDIERS The Mayor (Mr F. E. Sutton) has called a public meeting, to be held in the Council Chambers to-night at 7.30, for the purpose of arranging a farewell function to Lyttelton men before their departure on active service. Yachting Hie Banks Peninsula Cruising Club will hold a cruise down the harbour on Sunday, with a rendezvous at Little Port Cooper where novelty events will be held. Flag Day Appeal “The result of the appeal made today is extremely gratifying,” said the Mayor (Mr F. E. Sutton) last night m referring to the flag day appeal for patriotic funds. Mr Sutton said that, with two boxes to come in, the sum would be not less than £3B, He said he was particularly pleased with the ready response of workers leaving on the early trains and of the waterside workers. The last named, although they had just experienced the leanest week for years, almost all seemed to find a coin to drop into the boxes of the collectors.
