ENGAGEMENT NOTICE
The engagement was announced recently of Phyllis Jean, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs W. T. Trethewey (Linwood avenue), to Victor Clarence, eldest son of Mr and Mrs C. R; Thomas.
CRICKET CLUB’S DANCE
There was a large attendance of visitors at the Prebbleton Hall for a dance held under the auspices of the local cricket club. Music for dancing was supplied by Kinsman’s Band, and extras w-ere played by Miss Joyce Kolkman.
Novelty numbers were included in the programme, which was directed by Mr C. Hands. Card prizes were won by Mrs T. Newell (Tai Tapu), Mrs C. Hands, Mr A. Case, and Mr A. Giles.

Cunneen, Wilson, Misses Peggy O’Neill, Olive Streeter, Hazel Streeter, Margaret Barr, Joyce Kolkman, Elizabeth Anderson, Mavis Smith, Florence Warren, Kathleen Henry, Nancy James, Aileen Gallagher, Jeanhe Morel, Joan Anderson, Betty Barr, Louie Baker, Doris Shepherd, Nancy Gallagher, Ivy Burrows, Joyce Hoff, Bessie Hands, Jean Tomson, Ngaire Tomson, Pearline Lilley, and Betty Lilley.
PRESENTATION PARTY
• To honour Miss Fiona Mehrtens and Misses Joyce and Hazel Coles, Sunday school teachers at Ladbrooks, an enjoyable afternoon social was held at the Ladbrooks Hall. The guests included many parents, friends, and pupils, and also the Rev. C. L. and Mrs Sparrow (Tai Tapu). On behalf of the pupils, Mr Sparrow presented a hanging mirror to Miss Joyce Coles, a cup, saucer, and plate to Miss Hazel Coles, and a crystal vase to Miss Fiona Mehrtens. He expressed regret that owing to their departure from the district they would be unable to continue their work at the Sunday school. Mrs A. Jacob, representing the Basketball Club, presented each guest of honour with a cup, saucer, and plate.
Games, competitions, and singing were enjoyed.
SILVER TREE EFFORT
An enjoyable time was spent on Thursday, when bags containing contributions towards the recent renovation of the Richmond Methodist Church were hung on a specially decorated tree.
After an opening hymn and prayer, games were held. Recitations were given by Miss Withell, and the choir, under the leadership of Mr J. Kidson. sang at intervals during the evening. Shortly after 9 o’clock the bags were taken from the silver tree. Besides the monetary gifts, many of the bags contained appropriate quotations or a verse.
The gifts were handed to the treasurer of the church trustees (Mr J. Sutherland) and the Rev. J. K. Watson read the messages to the audience. The value of the gifts amounted to £23 7s.
