The Hon. Sir H. Heaton Hhodes, M.L.C., returned to Christchurch from the north yesterday.

Messrs J. Hargest and W. A. Bodkin, members of Parliament, arrived from Wellington yesterday morning. Mr D. I. Macdonald, secretary of the Canterbury Employers’ Association, returned from Wellington yesterday. Messrs W. Machin, H. C. Hassall, and C, H. Taylor, jun., were among passengers returning by steamer express from the north yesterday. Bishop Brodie will leave by the express for Greymouth this morning to preside at the ceremonies and festivals of the seventieth anniversary of the Greymouth branch of the Hibernian Society.

Mr H. McKeowen has been appointed a delegate to represent the Addington branch of the Hibernian Society at the Greymouth branch’s seventieth anniversary celebrations, starting tomorrow.

Constable A. J. Austin, of Nelson, has been transferred to Christchurch as acting-sergeant of police. Members of the staff of “The Press” made a presentation yesterday to Mr E. V. Wall, of the sub-editorial department, who will be married shortly. The speakers were the editor of “The Press” (Mr P. H. N. Freeth), the secretary (Mr R. V. White), the chief sub-editor (Mr L. M. Aitken), and the chief of staff (Mr A. W. Packard).

Dr. N. A. Foden has been appointed Deputy Judge-Advocate-General and granted the honorary rank of Squadron Leader at Air Headquarters.

Messrs A. Knowles, T. R. Hunt, and J. Lambden have been appointed members of the Lemon Marketing Advisory Committee. The Kt. Rev. G. V. Gerard, Bishop of Waiapu, is visiting Petone for the church jubilee celebrations.

Casbolt, president of the Christchurch Photographic Society, has Just received word that he has been admitted to' associateship of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain.
