QUEEN CARNIVAL AT NEW BRIGHTON

Smith), who is chairman of the New Brighton 'Centennial Memorial committee, states that through the efforts of the committee which, is organising the queen carnival in aid of the Plunket rooms for the New Brighton .Centennial Memorial the funds are, in a healthy condition and the committee has almost achieved the. amount aiined_ at. It is hoped, however, before the carnival'closes,* that in addition to the cost of the .building sufficient will be raised to provide the furnishings and the first two years’ maintenance. • The contest will close on September 23, at 5 p.m., when the final money must be paid, in. All money received after that date will go to. the general fund. A statement as to the position of the queens will he trade at the next meeting on September 19, and after that date no further announcement about their position will be made until the contest is concluded. The amount received to date is £353 3s 4d, as follows:—White queen (Miss Joan McKeown), £l6B 18s 6d; blue queen (Mrs Leslie Scrimshaw) ~£ 86 19s: red queen (Miss Mona Smith), £59 Is 6d; general funds £46 4s 4d; expenses £26 Is 9d, leaving a credit balance of £337 Is 7d. An amount of £SO to be divided evenly among the red and blue queens, from, th? £IOO to be igiven by Mr J. R. McKenzie, has yet tb be credited to their amounts.
