CHAMPIONSHIP EVENT DECIDED WIN Edß L. N. RICHARDS Riding in the B ' grade group on Saturday afternoon, L: N. Richards rode an outstanding race to win the.loo kilometres championship of Canterbury. R. J. Knlght, E. A. Rondel, , and D, F,; O’Donnell teamed well with the winner to fill other places. The race was conduced by-the Canterbury Amateur. Cycling Centre and was run over the course of 621 miles from Papanul through Kalapol; Amberley, Ashley, Rangiora, and finished on Harewood road,. At half-way-the B grade riders had gained more than a minute—an advantage they held till the finish. J. V. O'Donnell was the outstanding rider. In- the A grade, his strong solo riding being a feature of the race. i •

NOVELTY RELAY RACE AT • MAIREHAU
The Christchurch Ladles’ Cycling and Touring Association opened its racing season on Saturday afternoon at Maire-. hau. In conjunction with the Avon Amateur Cycling Club a novelty relay race was held over a two miles and a half course. Nine women ■ cyclists rode the first lap, Avon juniors topk the second, senior riders the third, and the final lap was ridden by officials. The winning team consisted of Miss Rona Denny, A. Paviell, W. D. Maike, and A; G. Williams.
THREE MAJOR RACES TO BE HELD DECISIONS OF CYCLING CLUBS Although certain racei scheduled for the local cycling season may have to be postponed because of the war, three of the main races in the South Island will definitely be held. In conformity with the request of the Minister for Internal Affairs- (the Hon., W. E. Parry), representatives of the clubs responsible for arranging the races decided, at a./meeting during the week-end, to carry on as usual. , The Timaru to Christchurch road race, organised by the Mairehau Cycling Club, will be held on September 23; the Southbridge Club’s 36-mile South Island championship, event will be held at Southbrldge on September 30; and the Waimate ' to-; Christchurch "race, arranged by the Canterbury Cycling Club, will be held on October 7. . ■
