WHIPPET RACING
♦ NEW BRIGHTON CLUB’S SPRING MEETING The spring meeting of the New Brighton Whippet Racing Club was held at Bower Park on Saturday afternoon in exceptionally fine weather, and with the track in ideal order. There were 73 entries for the 19 events, a special and, encouraging feature being the number of new dogs and new owners. The racing was of a very high standard and the exceptionally close finishes in several of the events made the task of the judges difficult, and reflected great credit on the handicapper. The new colours of the design used In Australian greyhound racing (worn round the neck and over the chest) were used for the first time; At the next meeting of the club the new rule adopted by the New Zealand Whippet Racing Association providing that when there are two heats in .a race the first, second, and third dogs .will be .placed In the final, instead of only first and second as in the past, will be in operation.
