CHILDREN TO BE EVACUATED

The King, accompanied by the Duke of Kent, visited the Admiralty and studied the emergency measures. • Activity continues at No. 10 Downing Street. The 'Ministry of Health announced that school children will be evacuated, ,at the same time emphasising that this must not be taken as an indication that war is Inevitable. ' , The evacuation will take several days, embracing Greater London, the principal cities and towns,' and vulnerable areas. * The stock markets reacted’ and the War Loan opened a point«worse. City circles do not attach much significance to the downward trend, pointing out that it is a natural result of the over-bullish tendency of the last few days, which they think unjustified. Operators _ are _ now adopting a more realistic attitude, more in keeping with the situation. The evacuation • will embrace Greater London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, ■ Dundee, Clydebank, Rosyth, Chatham, Gravesend, Rochester, Portsmouth, Southampton, Birmingham, Liverpool, Birkenhead, Manchester, Bradford, Sheffield, Leeds, Hull, Newcastle, and also the, entire boroughs .of a number of vulnerable areas throughout the country. The Government expresses the hope that all concerned in the receiving areas will entirely put aside every consideration of personal interest and convenience and do everything .possible to contribute to the success of a great national undertaking. . « The evacuation will begin at 9 a.m. Road and rail services will be severely curtailed for the ordinary passengers for the next few days.
