UNIVERSITY TEAM TO VISIT DOMINION , ’ SYDNEY, August 31. Australia s team for the New Zealand Universities’ athletic championships in March Is as follows:—B. D; Dunn (Sydney). 100 and 220 yards: B. Curtin (Sydney), 220 and 440 yards; R. Heffernan (Melbourne). high jump; L. Parkin (Melbourne), mile; R. Arrowsmlth (Queensland). half-mile: G. Wilson (Queensland), hurdles. APPEARANCE HERE IN MARCH OUTSTANDING SPRINTER INCLUDED The Australian universities’ athletic team. will compete at the New Zealand University tournament in Christchurch at Easter, which falls in March. The personnel of the team as announced from Sydney has yet to be ratified by the New Zealand University Students' Association. • Brian Dunn. 18-year-old sprinter, recorded sensational performances at the. New South Wales championships in Feb-ruary-of this year, when he won the 100 yards in 9 3-ssec. equalling the Australian record held by J. Carlton, and. the long Jump with a distance of 24ft 6lln, a quarter of an Inch better than the Australian record. He will undoubtedly Le a major attraction at the universities’ meeting here If he retains this form. Heffernan is a high jumper of Empire standard. At the- Empires Games in 1938 he was placed second, clearing 6ft 2in. He and Dunn would be the outstanding members of the team. It would be a good investment for the universities to bring’ a pole vaulter, if one Is available, who is able to clear 12 feet. There, is a possibility that a rowing crew will also come from Australia, though arrangements are still very much in the air. Whether the athletic team will visit all the other main centres is also indefinite.
