The weather forecast xor Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p..m._ by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Moderate winds varying between north-west and south-west. Weather mainly fair but occasional showers possible with some snow on the ranges. Temperatures cool. Seas, slight to moderate. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— , Moderate to fresh south-west to west winds. Weather cool and changeable with occasional showers. Some snow in the ranges. Seas rather rough. DOMINION The forecast for the Dominion is:— Cool arid rather changeable with . occasional showers, chiefly, however, in the western and far southern arras. Some snow possible in the ranges. An intense anti-cyclone covers Australia, while a series of weak westerly depressions is crossing the Tasman Sea and New Zealand. Winds—Local, north-westerlies in the eastern parts of Wellington and Hawke’s Bay provinces. Otherwise moderate to fresh westerlies to southwesterlies prevailing; force, strong, however, in some positions. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Slight to moderate on the east coast; rather rough on the west coast and in the far south. Eastern Tasman Sea —Moderate to strong westerly to south-westerly winds. Rather rough to rough seas. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch yesterday was fine and mild. A moderate south-westerly wind • in the morning freshened in the afternoon, when there was bright sunshine. The maximum temperature during the day was 54 degrees. At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was clear and there was a light south-westerly wind. The temperature was 43 degrees and the barometer, at 29.56 in, was rising rapidly.
