NEW BRIGHTON ROADS

TO THE EDITOR OT THE PRESS. Sir, —You condensed my letter of August 17 too much, and made it appear foolish, as you have mixed up the two roads. What I wrote was that in regard to Beach road, Mr Smith was quite wrong in saying that there was no population there, and that it was not used by local people, as it was a boundary road, and did not have much traffic on it. There is a big population in Klondyke and near the racecourse who use this road continually to get to the beach, and they are entitled to a footpath. The road is dangerous for pedestrians during the bathing season, as it carries traffic from all over New Zealand, now we have a motor camp at Brighton. Mr W. Spencer promised us a footpath along here five or six years ago, but nothing has been done. The money is squandered on relief work and playgrounds, and the roads are a disgrace.—Yours, etc., RATEPAYER. New Brighton, August 19, 1939.
