DANCES AT NORTH BEACH HALL

REPORT OF CARETAKER ON LIQUOR

A report from the caretaker of the North Beach Hall received at the meeting of the New Brighton Borough Council last evening said that the committee of a club using the hall was not checking in liquor at the hall. Small amounts had been smuggled in and this was difficult to detect. The conduct at the Saturday and weeknight dances had been good. Cr. W. E. S. Furby: I asked for that report to be supplied. This council some time ago passed a very resolution prohibiting liquor being taken into the hall. The council did not deal with other licensed halls in the borough. After some months it seems, according to the report, that liquor is being taken into th 6 hall, even if it is smuggled in. The position is that the resolution does' not seem to be effective. The council should row alter its decision, especially as the restriction does not apply to other, halls. The Mayor (Mr E. L. Smith): No other Kail in New Brighton checks in liquor. The conditions for the hall are that no liquor shaU be taken in and no pass-out checks allowed. Cr. Furby: I give notice that I will move at the next meeting .that the previous resolution be rescinded. '
