COUNCIL’S CLERICAL EMPLOYEES

NEW AGREEMENT RATIFIED

Ah industrial.. agreement coveting permanent clerical workers employ ed Jn the offices of the Christchurch City Council has been reached after negotiations, between the' council and the Canterbury Clerks’, Cashiers’, and Office Employees’ Union. The agreement provides that appointments to the staff shall be made with s probationary period of six months, and for preference to : he given'to employees already on the; staff with consideration to seniority, length, of ser r % vice, merit, arid qualiflcation;-Except in special cases, normal working hours , are fixed at 374 a week, with a maxL mum of 84 a fortnight'when the exigencies of the service require such/ex- . tension.'Clerical employees attached to branches of the council's service in ‘-Which the normal working hours ex- ■';;- geed-37i hours or extend to Saturdays

Classified positions range from 'ie4oo a year to £156, Clerks employed, temporarily or for preparation of rate demands, or electoral rolls shall be paid at the .rate of £5 5s a week in case of males and £3 5s a week in the case of females. Annual leave will be two weeks on full pay.

The agreement will operate until May 31. 1941.
