PRE-WEDDING PARTIES
An enjoyable “kitchen” afternoon party was given by Miss Mollie Talbot in the lounge of the United Service Hotel, in honour of Miss Edna Talbot, who is soon to be married. Amongst those present were Mesdames F. E. Talbot, J. Faulls, R. Inkster, J. Parr, T. Prosser, T. Ostler, F. Farrell, Misses Edna Talbot, Mollie Talbot, Olga Evans, June Pycroft, Ngaire Taylor, Alma King, Barbara Foster, Kathleen King, Betty Talbot, Edna Innes, Joan Duffleld, Olive King, and Merle Leggett.
Mrs W. W. Foster and her daughter. Miss Barbara Foster, entertained friends at a pantry evening party given in honour of the approaching marriage of Miss E. Talbot. Games, singing, and competitions were enjoyed by thd guests. Winners of the competitions were Mesdames Talbot and Parr, Misses J. Soanes, J. Pycroft, and O. Evans. Those present were Mesdames Talbot, Ostler, Parr, Faulls, Ross, Pycroft, Bruere, Misses E. Talbot, M. Talbot, B. Talbot, A. King, E. Innes, J. Pycroft, W. Kelly, O. Evans, J. Soanes, and B. Foster, Messrs R. Denton and C. Foster.
ENGAGEMENT NOTICES
The engagement is announced of Janet Hope, second daughter of Mr and Mrs H. M. Burgin, “Crosby,” Swannanoa, and Geoffrey John, younger son of Mr and Mrs J. G. L. Vernon, Merivale.
The engagement is announced of Eileen Mae, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Rae, Little River, to George Shackleton, second son of Mr and Mrs G. W. Aldridge, Riccarton, Christchurch.
DANCE AND SOCIAL
A dance and social were held under the auspices of the Football and Basketball Clubs in the Lincoln Public Hall. Mr M. Fitzgibbon’s orchestra played the dance music, and Miss Irene Woods an extra. Mrs J. C. Greaves was the master of ceremonies. A Monte Carlo was won by Mr and Mrs Charles Moody, ■ sen. In the card room Mr W. H. Jordan was master of ceremonies, and successful players were Mrs R. T. Court and Miss Dulcie Dixon, Mr T- Lancaster and Mr Charles Moody, sen. Amongst those present were Mesdames R. T. Court, Charles Moody, sen., A. Moreland, W. B. Dudson B. C. Hartley, C. W. Mills, T. Medlin, Misses Muriel Mounce, Irene Woods, Sheila Riordan, Marie Mills, Colleen Moir, Audrey Court, Daphne Moir, Jocelyn Fitzgibbon, Eileen Fitzgibbon, and Rose Costello.
