NEW MEASURE IN U.S.
Ban on Political Activities FEDERAL OFFICIALS AND EMPLOYEES (UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) (Received July 21, 9.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, July 21. Congress passed a measure which will make it illegal for any Federal public officials or employees, except the President, Cabinet officers, etc., to engage in political* activities. The law, which is ostensibly designed to prevent the self-perpetua-tion of the political machine through the control of relief workers, is expected to have a drastic effect on the Democrat Party organisation, for most of the minor office-holders will be prevented from acting as delegates to national conventions. It is thought that Mr Roosevelt may veto the measure.
