SCHEME TO RAISE £7500

CAMPAIGN OF Y.M.C.A. Details of the campaign of the Young Men’s Christian Association to raise £7500 for debt reduction and a programme of expansion were outlined yesterday by Mr A. O. “Wilkinson, genera] chairman of the bampaign. Mr Wilkinson said that the campaign would open on Monday and the intensive phase' of it would close on August 14 A strong group of citizens, headed by Mr J. L. Hay, had been fprmed into an advanced gifts committee, and they would begin canvassing citizens who could give the larger amounts necessary to assure the complete success of the effort. The campaign plan called for the advance gifts committee to see 300 friends of the association in advance and citizens of goodwill for the larger amounts, and the team organisation of 150 men and 60 women would start canvassing their prospects on July 31. The goal of £7500 was made up as follows: Extension of work in. suburbs and country districts, £1000; adequate equipment and supervision for 400 boys in central building, £750; national physical education, £500; working expenses, 1939-40, £1500; reduction of bank overdraft incurred during depression years, £3000; renovation oi central building, £750. . Mr Wilkinson' said that a similar effort in Wellington had already yielded about £6OOO, and he felt sure that Christchurch could reach its objective. '
