N.S.W. MINISTER’S RESIGNATION
—— , REASONS EXPLAIN?® . BY MR SPOONER SYDNEY, July 21. Mr E. S. Spooner, who resigned from the portfolios of Public Works and Local Government in the. New South Wales Government, said that the major issue was the Government policy on relief works. The plan for the control of his denartment’s expenditure was a minof issue, and he was not prepared to resign because of that. The Premier (Mr B. S. B. Stevens) ; expressed regret at Mr -Spooner’s resignStion. He said; that‘ Mr Spooner appeared to treat a minor difference as the reason for his resignation. Dealing with reported statements about faked finances, Mr Spooner said that he had had a talk with * member concerning variations ia Budget items, but the newspaper reports had not given a correct interpretation of the conversation.. / “The suggestion that there has been any manipulation of the accounts or of the Budget is ridiculous,” said Mr Stevens.
