TREE-PLANTING PLAN
WOMEN’S INSTITUTES’ ACTIVITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO ‘ CO-OPERATE The North Canterbury Advisory Committee on Tree-Planting decided to co-operate in its advisory capacity with the women’s institutes of North Canterbury in tree-planting ventures. Thi decision was reached when advice was. received from Mrs L. B. Brown, president of the Kaiapoi Women’s Institute, that a plan had been started for growing trees from seedlings, and that the North Canterbury F ’deration of Women’s Institutes (representing about 20 institutes) had been interested. The plan, Mrs Brown’s letter stated, would probably be brought before the Dominion executive. “It seems to me,” said Mrs Brown, “that co-operation between your committee and the Women’s Institutes would be of advantage to both. We could grow trees for you to plant.” It was also stated in the letter that Mr C. Morgan Williams, M.P., had been asked to approach the Minister for Lands (the Hon. F. Langstone) for a cup for competition between institutes, though, from one reply, the proposal did not seem to have met with approval.
