ELECTRICITY CHARGES IN WAIMAIRI COUNTY
TO TOT KDITOB Or TOT PBESS. Sir,—With reference to the letters “Shocked” and “Fendalton Ratepayer” I would like to be able to express my opinion on this subject May I first state that a low voltage will cause an excessive bill for charges, practically no effort being made to ensure the 240-volt supply by the authorities. Additional connexions are made and not until definite protests are made will the county electricians make a test.
The Waimairi charges are lopsided. Take a poultry farmer who uses brooders three months in the year and who purchased power below the regular householder. This is definitely wrong; the casual purchaser should pay more than the regular user. This refers to chicken brooders only.
I hav£ been living in hopes that when the amalgamation of local bodies takes place the Municipal Electricity Department, with its wonderful service of engineers and splendid organisation, will take over thesupply from the Waimakariri to Lyttelton, and so benefit a very large number of country ratepayers. Will Mr Morgan Williams please note and endeavour to bring this reform along?— Yours, etc., DEEPLY SHOCKED MANY TIMES. July 10. 1939. [Subject to the right of reply of "Shocked” this correspondence is now closed. —Ed.. “The Press.”]
