RUGBY FOOTBALL

. * — COLLEGE HOUSE BEATS ROLLESTON HOUSE TWELVE POINTS TO SIX With a greater share of the ball nearly all the game. College House gained a decisive victory over Rolleston House in the annual Rugby game between the two teams, played on North Hagley Park yesterday afternoon, running out the winners by 12 points to 6. In spite of the wet ground and greasy ball, the game was often surprisingly fast and open, and neither side was afraid to throw the ball about, even near its own goal-line. The first points cable from the boot of G. S. Walter, who landed a good penalty goal for Rolleston House from some distance out. College House retaliated with a faultless back movement which allowed N. B. Manssen to score In the corner after outpacing the opposition with a Jl ne run - The kick was unsuccessful. Then came the best movement of the day, when M. P. Donnelly, playing first five-eighths for College House, cut in beautifully and handed on to H. M. Kimberley, who left several men standing and in-passed to Donnelly, allowing him to score near the posts. Donnelly converted. Shortly before half-time Rolleston House were awarded k penalty kick In a very difficult position, almost on ths sideline and over 30 yards ouf. G. S. Walter astonished the onlookers, however, by kicking a beautiful goal. It was a notable effort with a heavy ball. In the second half Rolleston House worited desperately to gain the lead, but stubborn defence kept them out. Towards the end College House went to the attack again, and Donnelly potted a neat goal to make the Score 12-6. No further points were scored before the end. The College House backs gave the Impression that they would have been much more formidable on a dry day, but they shaded their opponents most of the time. The best of them were M. P. Donnelly, whose handling was amazingly sure, his kicking being deft and accurate, and U.

M. Kimberley, who was always a menace, but Was too often left unsupported when he cut through, and altogether was given too much to do. P. H. Tovey and J. Tizard played soundly in the forwards, who were ably led by A. E. Monaghan. J. R. Harrison was prominent in the Une-duts. Outstanding among the Rolleston House forwards Was the captain, G. S. Walter, who was well in the van of every fUSh. He was supported In fine style by T. Anker and J. Hillyard. J. 1,. Wood acquitted himself very capably 'on defence for Holies ton House at second five-eighths, and R. Hudson always looked dangerous on the wing what in possession. A. E. Mitchell played cooUJ at full-back, his line-kicking being good. The referee was Mr H. O. Jefcoate. DELEGATES TO IMPERIAL CONFERENCE AUCKLAND, July HIt was decided at a meeting of the management committee of the Auckland Rugby Union to nominate Messrs Harry Frost (Auckland) and G. A. Madison (Hastings) as New Zealand delegates to the Imperial Rugby conference, to b* held in London in December. The Waikato and East Coast Unions advised that they also were nominating Mr Frost.
