MAGISTRATE’S COURT
FRIDAY (Before Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS Hugh Alexander Kennedy, on a charge of drunkenness, was convicted and fined £2 and ordered to pay costs, in default seven days’ imprisonment. BREACH OF PRpBATION Percy Royce Hewlett, of Rotherham street, was charged with failing to comply with the terms of his release on probation. He also appeared for sentence on a charge of obtaining, by false pretences. £ls from the Employment division of the Labour Department. The probation officer (Mr W. H. Darby) said that the accused had been convicted of the original offence in 1937. and under the terms of his probation was ordered to make restitution of the money. This term had not been complied with. • , , , Mr D. W. Russell, who appeared for the accused, said that Hewlett had found it difficult to pay because of much unemployment. On the original charge Hewlett was convicted and discharged, and on the charge of a breach of probation, he was sentenced to 30 days’ imprisonment. TRAFFIC CASES Fines were imposed, with costs, in. the following traffic eases;— Careless riding: Albert Victor Borgstrom, fOs (cycling without light Cycling without light: William Robert Bullot, 10s; Robert Clark, 10s; Harold Alexander Dixon. 10s; Reuben Eastwick, 10s; Frederick Theodore Erickson, 10s; James Leonard Golding, costs only; John McMenamm, 10k; iom Shearer, costs only; Claude Sina I. 10s; David Egypt Taylor. 10s; Edmund Thompson, costs only (no reflector, convicted and discharged). Driving without duo care and attention: Harold Metcalfe, 20s; Geoige Lewis Woolcs. 10s. No warrant of Fitness: Stanley James Cook, ss; Melville Charles Hill-Rennle, "’Failing to give way on bicycle: Hartley Pailcrson. 20s; Archibald David Torrance, 20s; Frank Wakefield Upton, 20s Driving without: consideration: Arthur Percy Ivory, 20s; Alfred William ’Tindall. £2. , . Cutting in: William Cleave Joughm, 20s. No driver's licence; Thomas Stokes, ss. Insufficient lights: Ben Sword, £2.
