BIG PURCHASE OF WOOL
# BRITISH GOVERNMENT ORDER FOR UNIFORMS LONDON, June 1. It is officially stated in Bradford that the Government intends to buy 3.000. of tops, 50 quality, from the British Empire to expedite the manufacture of uniforms. This is the first direct buying of partly manufactured wool The value of the deal is nearly £250,000. The transaction, though substantial-, is.not sensational, calling chiefly for Melbourne and New Zealand crossbreds. The price will be in line with the current seasons modest values, . , . . , , „ The Government s decision to buy 3.000. of crossbred tops for Army uniforms resulted in a nailpenny advance on quotations as a protective measure on the part ot top-makers until they see how much business it will bring. The order should bring welcome employment to wool and textile workers.
