' ♦ CPBZaS igSOCIATIijt TEX.ZOXAJC.) HASTINGS, April 4. “In this c'ase, I can only gather what was in the mind of the man by his actions,” said Mr J. Miller, S.M., when Bertie Starkey, alias Starkie, aged 52, appeared at the Hastings Magistrate’s Court this morning on a charge of committing an indecent act, with the intention of offending a boy, Starkey pleaded not guilty. “On his list, he is apparently a person given to this class of offence, and is a menace about this town,” said the Magistrate. Starkey was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment, the maximum for the offence. ■ •
