CHILD RESCUED FROM RIVER
SCHOOLBOY’S PROMPT ACTION (rsias Aaaocuxioir teliob&u.j f;' HAMILTON, March 16. • A plucky rescue was made in the Waikato river last evening when lan Paterson, aged 14, the Hamilton High School junior swimming champion, dived to the rescue of a child of six and a half years, Roy Hunt, who was seen clinging to a capsized canoe. The canoe was seen revolving near midstream. The child was periodically submerged. He was rapidly becoming exhausted, and only the prompt action of Paterson saved his life. On reaching the canoe, Paterson had to swim more than 400 yards to the shore, where the child was given first aid.
