OFFICIAL FORECASTS

[THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, March 16. The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.xn. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows:

Light to moderate northerly winds with a possible change to southerly by Friday night. Weather line but with a morning mist or fog. Warm temperatures, seas slight. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is as follows: — Light to moderate northerly winds, but a change to southerlies advancing later from the south. Weather mainly fair to cloudy, but some scattered light rains developing. Temperatures mild, seas slight to moderate.

DOMINION The forecast for the Dominion is as follows: —

Weather mainly fair to fine but with a morning fog in places. Later a few showers are probable in western and far southern districts of the South Island. Temperatures mild. Pressure remains high over the New Zealand area, but a shallow depression is advancing across the south Tasman- A tropical disturbance is centred in • the ..Fiji group.

Winds—South-easterlies in parts of the northern half of the North Island; elsewhere north-easterlies or northerlies. A change to southerlies is probable in the south to-morrow. Force, light to moderate but freshening. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Rather rough to rough north of East Cape; elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea —Light to fresh north-east and northerly winds, turning later to southerlies in the south. Seas, slight to moderate. v

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER

The weather in Christchurch yesterday was generally dull and warm. The sky was overcast throughout the day and evening, and there was northeasterly wind in the morning and afternoon. The evening was calm and mild. The maximum temperature during the day was 61.6 degrees.

At 1 o’clock the sky was overcast and there was a light northeasterly wind. The temperature was 58 degrees and the barometer, falling, recorded 30.35 inches.

Auckland—The weather was fine and sunny during the day, becoming dull in the late afternoon. The wind was light to moderate from the north, and the maximum temperature was 75 degrees. The barometer pressure fell slightly during the afternoon, and the reading at 5 p.m. was 30.34 inches.

Wellington—Yesterday was dull and very misty in the morning, but fine and sunny in the afternoon, with a very light northerly breeze. The temperature was mild, the minimum on Wednesday night being 55.2 degrees, and the maximum yesterday 67 degrees. At 3.30 p.m. the temperature was 66.7 degrees and the barometer was at 30.307 inches.

Dunedin —The weather was fine yesterday, with no wind, and the sun shone intermittently. The temperature reached a maximum of 66 degrees, and the barometer fell slightly to 30.35 inches.
