The Hon. W. E. Parry, Minister for Internal Affairs, yesterday made his first visit to Akaroa, where he discussed arrangements for the centennial celebrations. The Minister heard a number of private deputations last night. He will visit the Botanic Gardens this morning and will receive deputations in the afternoon. The Minister, Mr J. W. Heenan (Under-Secretary of the Department), and Mr A. G. Harper (local government officer), will return to Wellington to-night. The Minister for Justice (the Hon. H. G. R. Mason) travelled from Christchurch to Wellington by air yesterday. He made a call at Blenheim on the way. The resignation of Mr T. S. Little from Vhe council of the New Zealand Sheep Breeders’ Association for health reasons was received at the annual meeting of the association last evening. The resignation was accepted with deep regret and appreciation of Mr Little’s services to the association and sheep breeding in general over a long period was placed on record. Mr H. Kitson, chairman of the Christchurch Domains Board, was reappointed by the Waimairi County Council last evening as its representative on the board. Under the regulations governing the constitution of the board, members hold office for five years at each appointment. Members of the council, in endorsing Mr Kitson’s appointment, praised his work on behalf of the people of Christchurch and nearby districts as chairman v of the board. Mr K. G. Butters, who has been assistantmanager of the National Bank of New Zealand, Ltd., at Christchurch for a little more than two years, has received notice of his promotion to the post of acting-inspector at the head office in Wellington. He will leave Christchurch at the end of this week. Mr C. M. Turrell arrived in Christchurch from the North Island yesterday morning. Mr E. E. Luttrell, secretary of the New Zealand Cricket Council, was among the passengers from Wellington by yesterday morning’s steamer express. Mr Bruce H. Painter, welfare officer for the Canterbury-Westland branch of the New Zealand Crippled Children Society, will leave Christchurch to-day for Greymouth to make personal visits to crippled children in the West Coast districts. He will be engaged on this work for about a fortnight* _ __
