SEAMAN FINED FOR DESERTING SHIP

Stated to have been one of eight who had deserted at the same time, Charles Keir McAnulty, aged 35, a ship’s fireman, was fined £7 when he pleaded guilty to deserting the Maimoa at Wellington on January 28. The accused pleaded that the conditions on the ship were not good, but Mr J. H. Luxford, S.M., said he would not accept that as an excuse.
