Mrs E. Allison (Wellington), who is visiting, her sister, Mrs _Frank Wade (Cashmere Hills), will leave for the north to-night. Mrs P. Stanley Foster (“Woodford,” Papanui road) is spending a holiday at The Portage, _ Marlborough Sounds. Miss Patricia Foster will leave to-morrow to join the Maunganui for three weeks' visit to Melbourne. Mr and Mrs R. Buxton (St. Elmo Courts) have left for Tauranga, where they will spend the winter months, i Mrs Egerton Reid (Switzerland), Miss M. Cotterill and Miss Betty Cotterill (Cashel street west) have returned from the West Coast via the Lewis Pass. Mrs Reid will leave to-morrow for Timaru, and Miss Betty Cotterill will leave to-morrow for Dunedin to visit Mrs C. W. Rattray. Mrs John Denham (Clarence Bridge) is visiting her mother, Mrs Cuthbert Meares, Fendalton. Miss Menie Archibald, who since her return from London has been staying with her mother in Dunedin, will arrive in Christchurch next week for a short visit before leaving for Sydney. Mr and Mrs P. H. Jauncey (Wellington), who have been visiting friends in Christchurch, will leave to-day for Timaru and will later go on to Dunedin and Invercargill before returning north. Fraer was carvied at a meeting of the executive of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association last night. Regret at the death of Mrs Alice Taylor, formerly Sister Keyte, was expressed at a meeting of the executive of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association last night. Well-stocked stalls did brisk business, at the garden party organised iby the Papanui-Merivale sub-branch of the Plunket Society and held at the home of Mrs L. A. Bennett. Mrs R. H. Livingstone was in charge of the tea arrangements, and cakes were sold by Mesdames Ernest Ed-* ridge, F. Pretch, John K. Moloney, Keith Newburgh, and Ivan Wood. The annual meeting of the Fendalton Red Cross Sub-Centre will be held at 39 Fendalton road on Monday, March 20, at 2,30 p.m. Lady Wigram and Mrs H. R. Smith will speak on the first aid classes which are being formed by the Fendalton Sub-Centre. All interested will be welcomed.

Friends of Mrs Kenneth Ballantyne united to entertain her at a most enjoyable farewell dance held last evening at the Winter Garden. Mrs Ballantyne will leave to-morrow night to join the Wanganella for Sydney, where she will connect with the Orion for a visit to England, and her friends chose this pleasant way of showing their appreciation of the hospitality which she has extended to them on many occasions at her home, "Coldstream Lodge. ’ Hydrangeas in pastel tonings and large bowls of mixed flowers had been beautifully arranged in the lounge and ballroom of the Winter Garden. The guest of honour was wearing a becoming frock of orchid-rose moire taffeta, a corsage spray being of matching taffeta. „ Music was played by the Bailey-Mar-ston orchestra. Several pleasant little dinner parties preceded the farewell dance given at the Winter Garden last evening in Honour of Mrs Kenneth Ballantyne. Those who dined at Mr and Mrs Ivan Wood’s home in Beverley stredt were Mr and Mrs Kenneth Ballantyne, Mr and* Mrs Guy Cotterill, Mr and Mrs ITrank Reid, Miss Kathleen Hoare, and Mr L. le Cren. Buffet Dinner At their home in Gloucester street west, Mr and Mrs A. L. Cropp entertained friends at a buffet dinner. Those present includei Mr and Mrs F. G. Bristed, Mrs E. Brooksbank, Mrs J. Boyd Clark, Mr and Mrs B. B. Wood, Dr. and Mrs W. G. FAREWELL TO MRS W. TOOMEY

To honour Mrs W. Twomey, who will leave shortly for a holiday visit to Britain, a number of friends gathered at. a bridge party held at the home of Mrs J. Benjes, Flockton street. Auction bridge was played, the prizewinners being Mesdames W. Toomey, F. E. Burrell, and N. T. Webb. A small gift was presented to Mrs Toomey as a memento of the occasion.
