The Hon. W. E. Parry left Queenstown yesterday for Dunedin. He will leave Dunedin for Christchurch to-day. The Minister for Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple), who visited South Canterbury yesterday, returned to Wellington by the steamer express last night. Cr. F. George was reappointed by the Riccarton Borough Council last night to represent it on the Christchurch Domains Board. Cr. George has represented the council on the board for the last 15 years. Dr. E. W. Bennett, research officer, Department of Hydatid Research and Prevention, Medical School, Dunedin, who is investigating the experience of Christchurch residents in the use of arecoline on dogs, will not return south until to-morrow. Dr. L. V. Berkner, physicist of the department of terrestrial magnetism at the Carnegie Institute of Washington, who has been visiting Christchurch, will leave for Dunedin to-day. After 27 years’ service with the Labour Department, Mr W. Slaughter, officer in charge of the department in Auckland, is to retire from the end of April, as he will then have reached the age limit. He is to be granted three months’ retiring leave from May 1 before going on superannuation.—“ The Pr6ss” Special Service. A resolution expressing sympathy with the relatives of Mr J. A. Manning was passed at a meeting of the New Brighton Borough Councillast evening. Mr Manning had taken a keen interest in local body affairs, particularly at Timaru, said the Mayor (Mr E. L. Smith).
