PROTEST MEETING HELD IN - ‘ SYDNEY V . SYDNEY, March-9. ;:, • A largely attended citizens’ meeting soundly criticised ■ the - Federal Government for maintaining the embargo on .New Zealand potatoes and passed. a resolution demanding the immediate lifting of the embargo. The resolution was put ,to the meeting by Sir Frederick Stewart, M.L.A. The' chairman, Mr R. 8.. Walker, MX.A., said that the potato embargo had restricted inter-Empire trade by reducing trade between' the .sister Dominions. He added-that the position was “stupid and ridiculous.”

Sir Frederick Stewart said: ’This matter is an example of the narrow, parochial view which appears to dominate our national policy. Today you are. paying £35 a ton for potatoes which should be available at half that price, flow'much longer are you going to tolerate it?” ' -
