NO SUBSIDISED LABOUR FOR CLEARING ADVICE TO TAWERA COUNTY COUNCIL Advice that he was not able to make subsidised labour available for straightening and clearing the water-course at Kowai Bush to prevent flooding and to provide a regular supply of water for stock was received by the monthly meeting of the Tawera County Council from the Minister for Labour (the Hon. P. C. Webb). It was decided to request the Minister to reconsider the matter. _ ~ _ Those present were Crs. R. M. D. Johnson (chairman), H. C. Amyes, W. H. Faulkner, and A. Duncan. , Further consideration was given to contributing to the Canterbury court at the centennial exhibitioh, but the council agreed not to change its former attitude that the ratepayers should not be expected to contribute to the cost of the exhibition. The Commissioner of Transport .(Mr G. Laurenson) • requested any views the council might have about the expediency of imposing restrictions upon the use of motor-cycles. It was agreed that in the interests of road safety, restrictions should be imposed, especially upon pillion-riding, which was regarded as an extremely dangerous practice. The clerk’s resignation was accepted With regret, and it was decided to invite applications for the position, of part-time clerk and overseer.
