Mr and Mrs Arthur Elworthy

(Timaru) and Mr and Mrs Derrick Gould (Fendalton) have returned from a short visit to Wellington. Mrs Gould, who is staying with Mrs Elworthy, will return to Christchurch on Friday. Dr. and Mrs Douglas Anderson (Armagh street west), who have been visiting Mrs Anderson’s brother, Captain W. P. Patterson, R.N., of H.M.S. Canberra, and Mrs Patterson in Sydney, returned home yesterday. Mrs Bruce Douglas (Glenesk, Greta), who has been paying a short visit to Wellington, returned home yesterday. Mr and Mrs G. L. Rutherford and Misses Kathleen and Cushla Rutherford (Connemara, Parnassus), who have been in Wellington for the races, returned home yesterday. Mrs E. Douglas Pullon and family (Merivale) have returned from a holiday spent at Waikuku beach.

Mrs Eric Skelton and her brother, .Mr Eric Loisel (Tolaga Bay), and Misses Patsie Barker and Eileen Hegarty (Gisborne) arrived from the north yesterday to attend the Loisel-Acton-Adams wedding to-day. Mrs Frank Reid (Fendalton) has returned from a visit to her mother, Mrs H. Vavasour, Ugbrooke, Marlborough. Mr and Mrs Richard Morten (Tai Tapu), who have been visiting Mrs Morten’s parents, Mr and Mrs A. E. Cooper, of Melbourne, formerly of Cashmere Hills, Christchurch, returned home yesterday.

Mrs Leyds Griffiths (Peterborough street), who has been visiting Mrs H. Vavasour, Ugbrooke, and other friends in Marlborough, left by aeroplane for Napier to visit her daughter, Mrs Frank Fulton. Mr and Mrs A. H. Rothenberg a.id family (Naseby street) have returned from a holiday visit to Portage, Marlborough Sounds.

Mrs Holm Turnbull and Misses Ptuline and Theo Turnbull (Fendalton), who have been spending a fortnight in Wellington, returned home yesterday. Mr and Mrs.Terence Gresson (Lismore Flats, Fendalton), who have been for a trip to Honolulu, returned to Christchurch yesterday. They paid a short visit to Mr Gresson’s sister, Mrs Coleman, at Waipukurau, on their way south.

Mrs H. Wyatt (Knowles street) will leave for Wellington on Tuesday to attend the annual conference of the Navy League. She will be accompanied by her sister, Mrs W. Tucker, Adelaide, who is her guest. Mrs Marquet and her daughter, Miss Eileen MarqUet (St. Martins) haVeyreturned to Christchurch after an absence of two years spent in England and Australia. Mrs John Tapley (Governor’s Bay) and Miss E. Bowron (Cashmere Hills), who have been touring through Ceylon and Malaya, are now on Iheir way to the Dutch East Indies.

Mr and Mrs G. G. Burnes arrived in Christchurch from England yesterday, and are staying at Warwick House. Mr and Mrs Burnes formerly lived in Christchurch for many years.

Miss Elaine Newtofi (Wanganui), who has been spending a few weeks at Mount Cook, is now the guest of Mrs H. T. Milnes, “Runnymede,” Shirley.

Mr and Mrs E. J. Bell (Cambridge terrace), who spent three weeks motoring in the North Island, returned to Christchurch Dr. Elizabeth Gunn (Wellington), Director of School Hygiene, is visiting Christchurch, and is the guest of Mrs C. M. Ollivier, Fendalton. Dr. Gunn, who was the founder of health camps in New Zealand, paid an official, visit to the Sunlight League’s health camp at Sumner yesterday and found the 120 children who are in camp all well and happy.

Mrs Edwin Milnes (“Manningham”), who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs Alan Menzies (Menzies Bay), has returned to her hom<? at Merivale.

Mrs M. S. Brown and Miss Phyllis Brown (Webb street), who motored to Hanmer Springs last Friday, will return to Christchurch this weekend.

Miss Helen Fitch (Bealey avenue) is visiting Mrs William Hudson, Dunedin. Miss Winifred Gardner (Dunedin), who has been visiting her aunt, Mrs Frank Wilkinson, Merivale, has returned home.

This week university women from all parts of the Dominion will'meet in Dunedin for the triennial conference of the New Zealand Federation of University Women. Delegates will be present from the four associations Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury, and'Otago. The conference will open on January 27 in the women’s common room, Otago Medical School, under . the presidency of Mrs W. N. Benson. The death has occurred at Milford-on-Sea, England, of Miss Winifred L. Boys-Smith, formerly if Otago University. Miss Boys-Smith had been living in England for some years. At one time she was a voluntary worker on the staff of the Rothamsted Experimental Station, where she was engaged upon work in connexion with illustrations for the British Empire exhibit. Miss Boys-Smith was aged 73. Mrs P. Fraser (wife of the Minister for Education and for Health) will arrive in Dunedin to-day to address the graduates attending the home science “refresher” course.

Miss Nancy Deans (Kirkstyle, Darfield) will leave this week for Wellington on the first stage of her journey to England. Miss Nora Sunley has returned from a trip to England and Europe, and with, her mother has taken up residence- at 65 Armagh street west.

Mrs J. Liggins (Burwood) and her sister, Mrs A. R. Mercer (Hereford street), have left for a fortnight’s holiday at Mount Cook and the Southern Lakes.

Miss Mary Scarvell (Leinster road) will leave Christchurch early next month for Wellington to join the teaching staff of Marsden School.

Mrs A. Hall and Miss N. Hall (“Strathallan,” Fairlie) are visiting Mrs May, Selwyn street, Christchurch.

Miss Milla Kempthorne (Christchurch) and Miss Joan Shennan (Wellington), who have been the guests of Miss Jean McClure (Geraldine), have returned to Christchurch.

Mrs G. Mulholland’ (Preston street, Timaru) is visiting her mother, Mrs W. Bryant, Tinwald.
