AMATEUR RADIO TRANSMITTERS
NEW ZEALAND ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING HELD AT CHRISTCHURCH • r ■ The annual meeting of the New Zealand Association of Radio Transmitters was held in the Methodist board room at the Epworth Chambers, on Saturday. The president, Mr O. V. Petrie, of Wellington, presided, and there was a large attendance of delegates from all parts of New Zealand. Various remits concerning the welfare and control of amateur radio stations and operators were dealt with. The president spoke on the requirements of the Civil Air Reserve of Wireless Operators and he answered several questions, making it quite clear that amateurs could participate in the operating procedure of the Royal New Zealand Air Force from their own stations, without having to attend parades or camps. They could if they , wished, he said, receive training in wireless operations ,in the air. Members of the association spent the rest of the week-end in social activities arranged by the Christchurch branch. The annual dinner was held at Frascati on night. The guests included the Deputy-Mayor, Mr J. S. Barnett, and Mr E. J. Howard, M.P. On Sunday a picnic was held at Pines Beach, Kairaki, the programme for the day including various sports events. Yesterday the members paid a special visit to the Sign of the Takahe during an observation tour of the Summit road. A theatre party at the State Theatre at night concluded the activities for the week-end. •
