“We categorically refuse to tolerate internal or external meddling in Rumania’s national affairs/’ declared the new Foreign Minister, Dr. G. Gafencu, in a radio address. He admitted that King Carol was actually directing foreign policy and said Rumania would fulfil her peaceful obligations to her neighbours bn the basis of absolute independence and territorial unassailability. He said that King Carol’s visit to London and other cities was evidence of Rumania’s desire to make the closest contact with the Western Powers:
He also declared loyalty to the Polish alliance. Rumania desired continued friendship with Jugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, and Russia.
