CURRENT NOTES

Mrs Shirreff-Hilton (Garden road, Fendalton) has left for a holiday visit to Mount Cook. Mr and Mrs Hubert O’Beirne and family (Wakapuaka, Nelson) are the guests of Mr and Mrs Frank Parris, Avonside. Mrs Kenneth Murchison and Miss Joan Murchison (Glenthorne, Lake Coleridge) are visiting Christchurch and have taken Mrs M. S. Morrow’s house in Edgeware road for a short time. Miss. Murchison will leave next Tuesday for Wellington - to connect with the Rangitane for England, where her marriage will take place.

Mrs E. H. Sime (“Grasslands,” Hororata) will leave on Friday for Hawke’s Bay to visit her mother, Mrs McNiven, and to attend the wedding of Miss Marie Stead, which will take place on January 11. Mrs F. M. Young (Brookfields. Winchester), who has been staying with ,her daughter, Mrs R. S. Kent, “Kenyoun,” Riccarton, has returned home.

Mr and Mrs Gordon Coull (Fendalton) are the guests of Mr and Mrs W. L. Cunningham, Castle Downs, Southland.

Mr W. H. Walton and his daughter, Miss Dorothy Walton (Timaru), are spending a holiday at the Hermitage, Mount Cook. Miss Gwen Hoddinott (Dunedin), who has been paying a short visit to Mrs H. A. Young, Cashmere, returned south yesterday.

Mrs Satchell (Nelson) and her daughter, Mrs R. Kay, who .have been occupying Mrs C. Satchell’s house in Weston road for a week, will leave for Nelson to-day. Mr and Mrs David McNaughton (Karori, Wellington) are the guests of Mr and Mrs Harold Goggin, Fendalton.

Miss Zena Rose (St. Elmo Courts) left last night for a visit to Wellington.

Mrs J. C. Macdonald and Mr and Mrs J. R. Nimmo have returned to Christchurch after visiting Mrs J. H. Nimmo, Dunedin. Mr and Mrs Norman Facer (Merivale), after spending Christmas at Invercargill, are spending a few days in Dunedin before returning home.

Mr and Mrs John Griffiths (Hundalee), who are visiting Christchurch, will return home at the end of this week. They are occupying Mrs Lewis Griffiths’s flat in Peterborough street. Mr and Mrs J. Hudson-Falcon, who are making a tour of the West Coast, spent the New Year weekend in Hokitika and stayed at the Hotel Westland. Dr. and Mrs J. G. Macdonald (Invercargill), who have been abroad for the last few months, will leave London to-day by the' Port Jacksori for Australia. They expect to return to Invercargill about the end o;f February. Miss Rita Berry (Manchester street north) is spending a holiday at the Marlborough Sounds. Misses M. and H. Fiddis (Colombo street) are the guests of Mrs Miller Hill on a camping holiday at Old Mill Farm, Temuka. Miss Roma Hurst (Highcliff, Dunedin), who has been the guest of Miss Betty Bowman, Oxford, has returned home.

Miss Valmai Sundstrum is spending a month with her father at their seaside cottage near Dunedin. Miss Phyllis Ross (Christchurch) is the guest of Mrs M. C. Walker, Evans Bay, Wellington. Mr and Mrs H. Morrison (Petone) and Mr and Mrs Keith Morrison (Lower Hutt) are making a motor tour of the South: Island. Mr and Mrs L. J. O’Connell (Timaru), arrived in Christchurch on Saturday, Miss Edythe Gill, of Croydon, is described as England’s youngest woman theatre manager. Until recently Miss Gill was a secretary. She applied for her present job because she felt that running a theatre was little different from running a well conducted household. She is still in her twenties.

Miss Jessica Stoner idly played' with a piece of clay at a studio party in London about two years ago. A sculptor friend, who saw her movements with it, was certain she had talent, and persuaded her to study the art. She went over to Jugoslavia for a time with this object. Now, at the age of 25; she has modelled the Duke of Kent and Mr Neville Chamberlain and is preparing for her first exhibition.
