WELLINGTON, January 2.

The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows:

Moderate to strong north to west winds, rain developing in the ranges. but otherwise weather - fair to line and warm. Seas, rough north of Kaikoura, slight to moderate elsewhere.

WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is;—

Moderate to strong north to west winds. Weather unsettled with rain probable. Mild temperatures. Seas, rather rough to rough.

DOMINION The forecast for the Dominion is:—

Weather continuing fair to fine in eastern districts and the far north, rain gradually developing in the far south and later extending to scattered parts of the western districts as far north as Taranaki. Warm east of the ranges. Mild elsewhere. An anti-cyclone of moderate intensity envelops the Dominion, but pressure is falling in the south with the advance of a depression across the south Tasman sea.

Winds—Light to moderate southerlies to easterlies predominating in the far north. Elsewhere moderate to strong northerlies to reaching gale force at times in exposed positions south of Cook Strait. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Rough about Cook and Foveaux Straits, moderate but rising south of Cape Egmont. Elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea—Light-easterly winds in the northern portion with slight seas. Otherwise winds between north and west, of gale force at times in the southern portion, with rather rough to rough seas. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER

The week-end was fine in Christchurch, although light rain fell on Saturday evening. The morning was dull, but the suh shone in the afternoon. Sunday was fine and warm with light cloud in the morning and a light southerly wind which veered to the north-east yesterday. Yesterday was warm and sunny for the greater part of the day.

At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was cloudy and there was a light easterly wind. The temperature was 57 degrees and the barometer, at 30.04 in, was falling

The maximum temperature was 14 degrees, and the barometer rose, the reading at S p.m. being 30.15 inches. Wellmgtdn—After showers between 2 and 5 o’clock on Sunday morning the weather in Wellington Was fine and mild, with passing cloud and sunshine. A boisterous north-westerly wind blew throughout Saturday, rising to gale force in the evening. The wind changed to a light southerly about midnight, and back to the north

at 4 p.m. but yesterday it changed to a fresh north-westerly breeze. The maximum temperature yesterday was 64.0 degrees. At 3.30 p.m. the barometer was at 30.45 inches, and the temperature 60.5, degrees. Dunedin—ln the week-end the weather was favourable. Saturday was dull and overcast early. Towards evening light rain began, and later there were one or two heavy showers. There was a light breeze from, the south-east. Sunday was line throughout with passing clouds. Bright sunshine with a light breeze from the north-east was experienced yesterday when the weather was warm. The barometer showed a falling tendency in the afternoon.
