TWO SERIOUS OUTBREAKS STATISTICS FOR ASHBURTON The fewest number of calls to fires since 1934 were received by the As - burton Volunteer Fire Brigade last year, according to the statistics f 1938, which show that only nme cans were received, compared with id m 1937 and 15 in 1936. Fires which necessitated the attention of the brigade were most numerous m recent years, since 1933, when 19 calls were The most serious outbreak year was on Labour Day. when the Ashburton Lawn Tennis Club’s pavilion in the Ashburton Domain was almost completely destroyed, the -damage amounting to about £4OO.
