SEVERE HAIL STORM
NARROW BELT THROUGH ASHBURTON One of the most severe hail storms experienced at Ashburton tor several years passed over the town about 4.15 on Saturday afternoon. The early afternoon was fine, but the storm arose suddenly and ceased just as quickly within half an hour. „____„ f i v The track of the storm apparently followed the railway line from the Baheitata district, dying oftin the Chertscy district. A remarkable fea lure was the narrowness of l the_ belt over which hail fell over the town, residents in the AHenton . and lower Hampstead suburbs experiencing only light rain, while those in the centre M the town experienced the full lore. S the storm. Some crops in- t*je ipathern area were damaged, out no •erfous damage la reported.
