BABY FLOWN TO HOSPITAL
BORN PREMATURELY ON GREAT BARRIER ISLAND

AUCKLAND, December 31
Born prematurely at 5 o’clock this morning on the Great Barrier Island, a baby left by aeroplane at 7.30, and by 8.30 was nestling in a temperature-con-trolled cot at the Karitane Hospital, Auckland. The parents. Mr and Mrs Connell, of Clevedon, were spending a holiday at the island. In response to a telephone call from the island, a doctor left Auckland by aeroplane at 3.30 a.m.. and decided that the child needed special care at Auckland. He left the mother at the island, as she was doing well.
The baby, wrapped in cotton-wool and enclosed comfortably in a hessian mail-bag, arrived sately at Auckland.
