APPOINTMENT OF GENERAL MANAGER.

APPLICATIONS are invited by The Sydney County Council, Sydney, N.S.W., for the position of General Manager. The function of the appointee will be to manage, as a servant of the Council, and in accordance with the relevant Acts, By-laws, Ordinances, and Regulations, the Council’s Electricity Undertaking. The duties, powers, authorities, and functions of the General Manager are defined by Statute and attention is particularly directed to the Gas and Electricity Act. 1935-1936 (of New South Wales). The Council supplies electricity direct to approximately 248,500 users in an area of about 150 square miles with a population of 806,000 and in bulk to 15 public bodies and companies m an area of 747 square miles with a population of 148,500. The number of kWh. sold in 1938 will be about 568.000.000. £20,500,000 (Australian) have been expended on plant and equipment for the Undertaking. The gross revenue for the year 1938 will be about £2.950.000. The plant installed in the Council’s two power stations is in the form of steam boilers and turbo-alternators of an aggregate rating of 226,000 kW. i The greatest demand on the system 1 has been 176,000 kW. Both overhead and underground mains are used for the transmission and distribution of electricity. The number of officers and employees of all grades in the undertaking is 3076. The salary will be at the rate of three thousand pounds (£3OOO, Australian) per annum subject to deduction on account of Superannuation and such other deductions by way of wages or special Tax as may be imposed by law. The appointment will be terminable by three (3) months’ notice on either side. The service of the appointee will terminate upon his attaining the age of sixty-five (65) years. The appointment will be made in accordance with Section 58 (1) of the Gas and Electricity Act 1935-1936 (of New South Wales) which reads:— “The Sydney County Council shall appoint a person chosen solely on the basis of his excutive and administrative experience and qualifications to be the General Manager.” Each application must set out the cate and place of applicant’s birth and his nationality, and briefly the qualifications and experience which in his opinion make him suitable for the position and should be accompanied by copies of testimonials covering the period 1929 to 1938 inclusive. The applicant selected will be asked to show the originals of his testimonials before he is appointed and as soon as possible afterwards his birth certificate or a certified copy. The applicant selected will be required to submit himself for examination by live Council’s Medical Officer and will only be appointed if he is certified “fit” by that officer. The successful applicant will be required to make available his services to the Council about the Ist June, 1939, and to assume the functions and designation of General Manager about the Bth October, 1939. From the date on which, by arrangement with the Council, he makes his services available he will receive the salary mentioned above. Each application must be enclosed in a sealed envelope endorsed “Application for Position of General Manager” and must be received by the Secretary by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, 24tb January, 1939.
