DISTRIBUTION OF HAMPERS

♦ ANNUAL WORK OF ROTARY CLUB \ MANY HOMES BENEFIT Christmas cheer •will be brought to many homes this year by the Christchurch Rotary Club's annual distribution of hampers and cash orders, which will take place this morning. Each year members give both time and money to this distribution work, which is much appreciated and which does a lot to make the Christmas a merryone for families in unfortunate circumstances. No deserving cases will be omitted While 500 hampers will be distributed by the Christchurch Rotary Club many more will be given away by the Returned Soldiers’ Association and the Mayor’s Relief Fund. Some weeks oi preparation have been devoted to the sorting of applications to avoid duplication and to ensure that no deserving family is without the requisites of s happy Christmas. Between 40 and 50 cars will distribute the hampers, which were packed last Wednesday night, tc houses within the area bounded by Islington, Sumner, Marshland road and New Brighton. Each hamper is filled with the following necessary Christmas foods;—A 71b bag of flour 51b bag of sugar, a Christmas pudding four packets of jelly crystals, currant; and raisins, 11b of tea, a large tin ol jam, a tin of baking powder, and 21t of butter. Each recipient of a hampei will also be given an order for up tc 4s 6d worth of meat and an order fca a large loaf of bread. In addition money has been distributed to all the orphanages and provides every child with Is as pocket money.
