GIFT PARTIES
Miss Ivy Carter was the guest of honour at a morning tea party given at Ballantynes by her bridesmaid, Miss Hope Betts. Miss Carter received many blue gifts for her future home.
Those present were Mesdames C. Carter, W. Moore, J. Betts, F. Carpenter, R. McCullough, A. Palmer, C. Greenland, L. Davies, C. Heney. N. Bird, A. Donald, H. Hartley, Misses Ivy Carter, Hope Betts, June Johnson, Molly Moloney, Melba Moore, Marjorie Claydon, Zoe Meyerhoff, Inez Evans, Gay Evans, Norma Bird, and Jean Cossins.
Miss Margaret Carruth was the honoured guest at an afternoon party given by Miss O. Roy. Many gifts were presented to Miss Carruth for the pantry, of her new home. Those present included Mesdames M. Roy, R. M. Roy, J. Dean, E. Parsonage, M. Roberts, W. Nicol, H. Andrews, A. Shanahan, E. Voyce, N. Voyce, E. Roberts. A. Muschamp, H. Craze, Misses Betty Dean, Joan Craze, and Lois Dean.
SOCIAL AT PREBBLETON
For their final meeting this year members of the Prebbleton Women’s Institute arranged a social in the Parish Hall, where husbands and friends of members were entertained. The programme included games, competitions, and musical items. Contributors to the programme were Misses Carmel Smith, Joyce Kolkman, Mildred Easterbrook, and Mr Russell Prebble. Competitions were won by Mrs A. Page, Miss C. Smith, Messrs J. O’Neill, H. Prebble, and R. Prebble.
Mesdames F. Carter and J. O’Neill judged the home competitions, the results being as follows:—Specimen bloom, Miss J. Horsfield 1, Miss S. Horsfield 2, Mrs F. Page 3; spike of blooms, Mrs J. Easterbrook and Mrs G. Rutherford (equal) 1, Mrs W. Kolkman 2, Mrs A. Smith 3; posy bowl, Misses S. and J. Horsfield (equal) 1, Mrs G. Millar and Mrs J. Easterbrook (equal) 2, Mrs Kolkman and Mrs Rutherford (equal) 3; ginger biscuits, Mrs W. Kolkman and Miss J. Kolkman (equal) 1, Mrs Millar and Mrs Easterbrook (equal) 2, Mrs A. Page and Mrs F. Page (equal) 3; Christmas
gift costing not more than 2s 6d, Mrs G. Rutherford and Mrs F. Page (equal) 1, Mrs Easterbrook and Mrs Millar (equal) 2, Mrs Kolkman and Mrs A. Page (equal) 3.
Descriptions of weddings may be inserted at the rate of five shillings (ss) per column inch, with a mini mum charge of Oye Pound (£1). and photographs of wedding groups at the rate of five shillings (ss) per single column inch, with a minimum charge of Two Pounds Two Shillings (£2 2s).
