DEFENCE OF MERCHANT SHIPPING
(BRITISH OVriCI&L WIJ&BUCSS.) RUGBY, December 21. The Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty (Mr G. H. Shakespeare) replying to a question in the House of Commons said complete plans for the protection of merchant ships had been prepared, and the collaboration of shipping interests had been ensured by the formation two years ago of the Shipping Defence Advisory Committee. Details of such plans were, of course, secret, but a general outline had been communicated to the mercantile marine.
