A simple brain test was recently going round the motor trade in London. Here is the problem: A motorist drove up to a garage and asked for one gallon of oil. The garage attendant had lost his measure, but he had three drums, which were of eight gallons, five gallons, and three gallons capacity, and these actually contained, at the time, five gallons, three gallons, and two gallons respectively. The garage attendant picked up one drum and poured oil into another, then picking up another drum, he poured again, so as to leave exactly one gallon in one drum. Try it, says the Dunlop Bulletin. and see if you can solve the problem in two minutes.
