... Among the passengers arriving in Auckland .in the Monterey. to-morr' row<are Mr and Mrs Gerald Nairn : \ of Bagdad, Iraq. After spending:a. short holiday in Rotorua with their two! sons, who have gone to Auckland to meet their parents, they will come to Christchurch, where they intend to stay for several months. Dr. L. Lempriere, who recently retired from the position of medical officer of Haileybury College, Hertfordshire, England, and Mrs. Lempriere are visiting Christchurch and: hr.ve taken a flat at Victoria Mansions for a short time. Mrs Lempriere is a New Zealander, a member of the well-known Baker family, of Banks Peninsula and a sister of Dr. Eleanor Baker-McLaglan, of Christchurch. With Dr. Baker-M?-' Laglan, Dr. and Mrs Lempriere will spend some time camping in the! south. Canon and Mrs J. de B. Galwey, who have been in England for some years, left Tilbury on December 3 by the Ormonde on their return journey to New Zealand. Mrs A. S. Adams (Fendalton) will leave on Saturday for Akaroa with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr and Mrs Frank B. Adams, of Dunedin, and their daughters. They will stay at "The Glen" for a few weeks. Mrs J. F. Studholme (Lower Hutt) is visiting Christchurch, and is staying at Warwick House. Mr and Mrs F. Worsley Knight (Winchester street) have left for a motor tour of the North Island. Mrs F. Goulburn Gibson (Victoria Mansions) > will leave to-morrow morning for Oaro, to spend Christmas with Mr and Mrs Russell Laidlaw.

Mrs Hay, who is visiting her duughter, Mrs Maurice Warren, Fendalton, will leave next week to stay with her other daughter, Mrs Bruce Murray, Braemar, Mackenzie Courftry. Mrs Warren and family will go next week for a camping holiday at Wainui.

Mr and Mrs Harold Greenwood (Teviotdale, North Canterbury) will leave to.-night for a visit to Auckland.

Mr and Mrs Anthony Lester (Auckland) will arrive in Christchurch this week to spend Christmas with Dr. G. M. L. Lester, Webb street.

Mr J. F. Tipping, formerly of Opawa, and Mrs Tipping, who were recently married in England, have arrived in New Zealand and are staying in Hamilton. They intend to visit Christchurch in February. Mr and Mrs C. J. Payne (Dunedin), who have been visiting their son-in-law and daughter, Dr. and Mrs W. S. Seed, Linwood avenue, left yesterday for Greymouth to stay with Dr. and Mrs Greenslade. Mr and Mrs Keith Dalgleish (Tuatapere) will arrive in Christchurch to-morrow to spend Christmas with Mrs Dalgleish's mother and sister, Mrs and Miss Christobel Robinson, Riccarton.

Miss Elsie Knight has given up her flat at St. Elmo Courts, and has taken up residence for three months at 80 Winchester street.

Mr and Mrs C. H. Clemens (St. Andrew's square) will leave to-mor-row for Dunedin to spend a camping holiday at Ocean beach, with Mr and Mrs Clive Wood and Mr and Mrs Alan Wood, formerly of Christchurch. '

Miss Laura Turtori (Nelson), who has been visiting England, left Tilbury on December 3 by the Ormonde on her return journey to New Zealand.

Mr and Mrs H. W. Harwood and daughter will leave to-morrow morning for the North Island, where they intend to spend six weeks on a motoring tour.

Miss Kersley and Miss Nora Gray (Wellington) arrived in Christchurch yesterday to visit Mrs Malcolm Gray,' Knowles street, who with her husband, Dr. Gray, returned yesterday from Sydney. Mrs Aston, accompanied by Miss Sybil Tickell, is spending the Christmas < holidays in Nelson. Miss M. Anderton left last night to join the Wanganella. at Wellington to visit her brother and sister-in-law in Sydney.

Miss June Midgley is spending the Christmas holidays in Christchurch. Miss Miriam Dabscheck, assistant mistress of the Springfield School, will leave to-day by the Wanganella to visit relatives in Melbourne.

A pleasant evening party was held at the home of Mrs W. Smith (Torrens road) in aid of the Sprevdon Croquet Club. Card games were played and the president (Mrs Elmes) thanked all.who helped to make the entertainment successful. Miss M. Lorimer (Wellington), formerly lady principal of Nelson Girls' College, is visiting Christchurch. She will return north tomorrow night.

Lieutenant-Commander G. Oldham, A.R.N., and Mrs Oldham (Melbourne), who are visiting Mrs Oldham's parents, Mr and Mrs T. F. Gibson, Fendalton, will leave on Sunday on their return journey to Australia.

Mrs F. Curtis (Ashburton), president of the Mid-Canterbury Federation of Women's Institutes and chair-: woman of the Mid-Canterbury committee of the National Council of; Women, will arrive to-day at the Cave Rock Hotel, Sumner, where, she will spend the ..school holidays with her family. , Mrs Harold Beck will leave today to spend a week at Wainui. Miss Dorothy Walton (Park lane, Timaru), who has been visiting England, returned home yesterday. Mr and Mrs Wayne Redpath, who, since their return to Christchurch a few weeks ago, have been staying pntk Mxs Bedpatlx's parents, Colonel land Mrs S. C. P. Nicholls, have I taken up residence in a flat in Gracefield avenue.
