WELLINGTON WOMEX WIN A WAGER
[THE PBESS Special Service.! WELLINGTON, December 21. Reviving the wheelbarrow contests popular a few years ago, three young Wellington women took turns in pushing each other in a home-made go-cart from Brooklyn to the Wellington railway station to-night. Undeterred by the ridicule of theatre crowds and the frail construction of their contraption, which collapsed near the Basin Heserve, they carried on gamely to the finish, where they were given £5 each by a man friend who had wagered that they would not see the venture through. When one of the wheels came off the cart in Cambridge terrace the young women went into the nearest h^" s6 * and their insistent knocking roused a sleeping household. They borrowed hammer and nails, and carried out repairs. Near the post office they were stopped by a constable. They fl°«f" ished two £5 notes as proof that tne wager was genuine, having been given the money in advance for such an emergency.
