CIVIC FAREWELL AT AUCKLAND

Three hundred boy scouts, who sailed to-day by the Awatea for the world jamboree at Sydney, were tendered a civic farewell this afternoon in the concert chamber of the Town Hall. They were one section 0/ the 600 scouts to represent New Zealand. The Mayor (Sir Ernest Davis) expressed best wishes for New Zealand to the scouts. Lord Galway, Chief Scout of the Dominion, said that he had been invited to go and very much regretted that he was unable to. He was looking forward to welcoming Large numbers of overseas scouts attending the b.ig jam-boree-at Wellington in connexion with the New Zealand Centennial. The Hon. W. E. Parry expressed good wishes for the Government. Replies were made by Mr W. D. Johns, who is in charge of the Awatea party, and Commissioner Cooksey, who is in charge of the New Zealand continent Commissioner Cooksey said he looked to the scouts to uphold the best traditions of New Zealand.
