Arrangements have now been completed for the purchase of land for housing in St. Martins, Christchurch, providing sufficient area for- 30 one-house units, according to adyice received from the Hon. H. T, Armstrong, the member of Parliament for .the district. The land is situated in Hills road, and Wilson’s road south, and at the corner of Hills' road and Wilson’s road.
“Our attitude appears to be that there is not very much that can be done until- we know what the City Council will do,” said Mr C. E, Foweraker at the annual meeting of the Canterbury branch of the Royal Society of New Zealand last evening, when urging that the society should be more active in pushing the merits of a museum as a Centenary project. “That attitude of sitting down and waiting is not very satisfactory. The council in the meantime may decide on a swimming bath, and a resolution from this meeting might turn, the scale in favour of the museum.” Dr. F. W. Hilgendorf explained that appropriate action was being taken, and no resolution was put forward. ■ ; ?
