CHRIST’S COLLEGE OLD BOYS’ CLUB
REPORT OF .ANNUAL , MEETING
A reduction of £4 in the overdraft was the result of the activities of a very energetic committee over the last year, stated the annual report of the Christ’s College Old Boys Cricket Club, presented by the secretary, Mr P. H. T. Alpers, at the annual meeting on Wednesday. The ball held on the Tuesday after Easter had proved a real success, and a clear profit of £l4 was shown.
The club had acquired two new practice nets and a slips machine, the report continued, but it felt, the strain of trying to run an.expensive club on an inslgnficant subscription and xt recommended a small increase in the subscription. The season had been marked by the definite establishment of the clubs’ “home” at Rugby Park, and it had been found that the wickets were much better than in previous years. It was clear that they would have to pay a higher rental to the Canterbury Cricket Association for the use of the ground. , , ~ ' ~ It was generally thought that the club’s standard of play had improved during the season, though it had not attained any high place in the club competitions, the report said. The fourth eleven had proved the most successful and there was no lack of cricket talent among some of the younger members. The senior eleven was composed of very young players. The team had had three good wins during the season and had not once been badly beaten. The second and third elevens had not repeated their success of the previous season, but had always given their opponents a good game. The club, in fact, bore every symptom of being a thoroughly healthy one. the repoit concluded.
