NEW YORK, August 28,
Messages from Bonneville Salt Flats (Utah), state that Captain G. E. T. Eyston beat his previous land speed record by achieving a speed of 345.49 miles an hour. His car, Thunderbolt, had been painted with black bands so as bet-
ter to actuate the electric timing device.
Mr John Cobb, the Australian racing driver, was among the first to congratulate him.
Captain Eyston said he would remain until Cobb’s trials were completed in case it was necessary to try to exceed the latter’s speed.
